On May 30, the sisters of the U.S. region gathered at the St. Joseph’s community on Adams Blvd. in Los Angeles. The Company of Mary has been present at this location since 1952, having moved to the property from the Palo Verde neighborhood in Los Angeles after a large development project took over the entire neighborhood. Over the years, the Order sponsored, a pre-school/kindergarten and student residences for women.
For the prayer, sisters were invited to express their gratitude for the many graces and people who were a part of the ministries at this site. Many remembered key sisters, some who are no longer with us, such as Dolores Lozano and Rosario Olagary, who helped establish the Company of Mary more firmly in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The rest of the time together was spent sharing memories of the past and news of present events.
The community will move to a new house next month based at Ascension Parish in south Los Angeles. The location will provide many new ministry opportunities in a very ethnically diverse and low-income area of the city.
