National Catholic School Week is celebrated throughout the country the last week of February. It focuses on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation. At Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac School in Temecula the celebration begins the weekend prior with a family Mass followed by a free pasta dinner. The pasta and sauce were made from scratch by a group of volunteers. The evening Mass and dinner were attended by over 300 people.
The follow morning features the annual 5k Nun Run, again with a participation of over 300 parents, children and friend from the community. Several sisters participated in the Run and support the event in many ways. The volunteers gathered at 4:00 a.m. to prepare medals, trophies, T shirts, etc.
Throughout the week, the children delivered thank you letters and homemade cookies to various groups in our city: parishes, fire department, police stations, mayor and other friends. It truly is a wonderful week to express our gratitude for the opportunity we have to form our children to be the best they can be in God and make a difference in their environment.
